Extract from the Presidents Report

I am very happy to tell you that the works are progressing quite quickly on Kedron Substation now and we anticipate finalising the lease and moving in before the end of 2013. The air conditioning grant has been acquitted and there have been considerable upgrades in the amount of work being carried out, we will have a state-of-the-art facility when we move in. The completed building will be much better than the original plans proposed in 2010 and will be an excellent showcase for future substations as they become available. It will be Impress’s privilege, with so much funding and support from Brisbane City Council, to be able to share this facility and make it available to the community and our members. None of which would have been possible without the dedication of Paul Songhurst and his team at BCC, Jodie from Redcoop and our team on the Kedron sub-committee. I know it has been a long wait, but the end result will be well worth the wait.

The Kalinga Studio is being well utilised and despite a few hiccups with loss of power, everything is up and running smoothly now. The weekend workshops are being run on a regular basis and are well attended, and people are asking for mid week workshops too. We are very lucky to have use of this interim space, so I urge you to continue using it. John, Gwenn and Carolyn have done a wonderful job in helping me set it up to be a user friendly, safe environment.

We need to start finalising plans for the move into Kedron and our official launch and month of special events to mark the occasion, so there is much to organise and put in place and we welcome your experience if you wish to contribute your skills, knowledge or expertise. It is anticipated that we will be moving into the Kedron studio before the end of the year, so we will need to call on you, our members and volunteers to help out where and when you are able. Busy times are ahead and there will be more working bees and planning schedules to come.
